The book of the month for October is COOK-A-DOODLE-DOO. It is about a rooster who wants to prepare something new to eat. He finds a recipe book from the Little Red Hen. The students were able to make connections from this story to the story of Little Red Hen.. Each student illustrated the beginning, middle and end of COOK-A-DOODLE-DOO on a story map. Students worked with a partner to write a retelling of the story based on the story map.

Oooh! I love this book. I got to meet Susan Stevens Crummel a few years ago. She is the illustrator of this book. Did you know her sister is the author? It surprised me that they don't travel together to talk about the book.
