Miss Red's Favorite Book

This week we read Miss Red's favorite book Caps for Sale. We enjoyed this story as we discussed the characters, setting, problem and solution. There were mischievous monkeys in the story that imitated a peddler. The peddler became very angry with the monkeys. We performed an oral retell of the story with props of a monkey mask and a cap of our very own.

First Day of School
The first day of school was an exciting adventure. The students arrived with eager smiles and a bit of apprehension as they entered the classroom. We started the process of building a community of learners where all students are valued for their contributions. We learned about making each other "bloom" with positive comments. Enjoy a look at our first day of school.

Miss Hegdal's Summer 2008
I have had a busy summer. I took a trip to Detroit, Michigan to visit my brand new nephew! He was born at the end of June. I also took a trip to Toronto, Canada. While I was there I saw a clock made of flowers and I visited Niagra Falls. I walked across the bridge that connects the United States and Canada and if you stand in the middle of the bridge, you are actually in two countries at the same time! I went into the tall CN tower where I took the picture of the baseball stadium where the Toronto Blue Jays play. I attended a baseball game between the Blue Jays and the New York Yankees. I am a big Yankee fan so I loved the game! My niece attended a horse riding camp and there was a show the last day to demonstrate what the campers had learned during the week. I was so proud of my niece. She is a great rider! I had a wonderful vacation spending time with my family!
Miss Hegdal's Favorite First Grade Book

Can you guess what my favorite book was when I was in the first grade? It is about a bird searching for his mother. It is called Are You My Mother? by P.D Eastman. I liked it because the little bird had many adventures while searching for his mother. Read this book to find out if he finds his mother.
